"It smells like an airport runway; jet fuel stenches in the cabin and lights flickering at random." -death cab for cutie
I had the opportunity to see death cab last week at El Rey theater in Los Angeles. I've seen them 7 or 8 times since I first saw them in Chicago in 2004, and every time has been such a great experience for me. Most people think my devotion to my favorite bands is a little crazy, and it probably is, but I just can't help it. It's like seeing an old friend that has been with you through all of your adult life. A friend who has seen you through the good times and the heartache, who has spoken words of understanding and advice. A friend who is able to express experiences in words and sounds better than you ever could yourself.
So once or twice a year for 2-3 hours we sit and connect through song. When our time is up, we go our separate ways, but it's never really goodbye. It's like Penny Lane says in Almost Famous, "If you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends."
